One calculator and a readiness check

These tools are built to help you organize your information and think through scenarios — not to tell you whether you qualify.

Readiness checklist

A quick self-check to see whether you have what you need before you start a Medicaid, CHIP, or marketplace application.

Assumptions this uses
  • Each item reflects a step most state Medicaid agencies expect before an application is considered complete
  • This checklist does not submit anything anywhere — it is a private, on-page self-check only
  • Checking every box does not mean you will be found eligible — only your state Medicaid agency can determine that

Limitations: This does not account for your specific state's exact document list, does not verify anything you enter, and cannot determine your actual eligibility.

Runs entirely in your browser.

Before you apply

Have these five things ready before you start a Medicaid or marketplace application

Proof of identity (driver's license or state ID), proof of income for everyone in your household (recent pay stubs or a tax return), proof of residency in your state, Social Security numbers for household members applying, and immigration documentation where relevant. Having these ready before you start means you're far less likely to get a request-for-information notice asking for something you could have submitted the first time.

Coverage-gap scenario

A private, illustrative estimate of what unpaid medical costs could look like over time without coverage — to help you weigh why applying promptly matters, not to predict your actual bills.

Assumptions this uses
  • This is an illustrative scenario only, not a medical cost projection
  • Actual medical costs vary enormously by individual health status, location, and provider
  • This does not reflect any real insurer's or state's actual pricing or coverage terms
  • Figures entered are used only in your browser and are not sent to us or saved anywhere

Limitations: This does not predict your actual medical costs, does not account for emergencies, and cannot tell you whether you qualify for any specific program.

Runs entirely in your browser.
